Last month, we celebrated a huge milestone for Prospect. It has been 21 years since Colette and Emma started the business. Prospect was founded on the vision that there is a better way of recruiting within PR and communications, to bring more honesty, greater transparency, and a deeper understanding of the industry.
By any measure, 21 years is a substantial time. For small business owners, it’s a testament to the strength of relationships, the quality of the work, and the unrelenting passion to support candidates and clients to achieve their career goals.
One of the main reasons Prospect has thrived across two decades is the commitment to being a career partner for the long-term. This begins by getting to know people – listening to their goals, their priorities and understanding what motivates them daily. Whether the next step is to look for a new employer or seek motivation through other means such as coaching or mentoring, Prospect can help. Fundamentally, we believe that life is too short to be in a job that doesn’t meet your needs.
As we reflect on turning 21, we asked our team what they love about their work. Based on their own experience, here are Prospect’s perspectives on how to love the work you do:
1. Find your tribe in the workplace
“The Prospect team is energising for me. It’s a great bunch of people who really care about their clients and candidates. They make each day fun and productive.”
– Karen Zeng, Operations Manager, Prospect (Asia), has been with Prospect for over 12 years
2. Contribute to a purpose you believe in
“Even after five years in recruitment, no day is ever the same. I love the variety of interactions, the long relationships we build, and the opportunity to contribute to the PR industry through job matching, sharing career advice and providing thought leadership. This helps us all to grow together.”
– Amanda Lee, Director, Prospect (Asia), has been with Prospect for over 3 years.
“This is not a job for the faint hearted. Despite the ups and downs, what has kept me in recruitment is knowing that I am making an impact, however small, to those who need it. It’s easy to be carried away with the daily deliverables but the supportive team at Prospect makes it possible to focus on doing what is right for our clients and candidates.”
– Joan Liew, Senior Consultant, Prospect (Asia), has been with Prospect for over 2 years.
“From an industry perspective, it’s a really interesting sector to recruit for. You’re learning all the time as it’s an industry that’s very plugged in; from popular culture to current affairs.”
– Sara Bacon, Senior Consultant, Prospect (UK), has been with Prospect for over 15 years.
3. Work for people who care about you
“Colette and Emma have been second to none at creating an environment that’s exceptionally supportive and allows you flexibility and autonomy to grow and deliver without micromanagement. We are all treated with genuine respect and kindness. I count myself so fortunate to work in an ever-evolving industry amongst bright, engaging, creative people who I love supporting in their career growth.”
– Celia Wyndham, Talent Consultant, Prospect (UK), has been with Prospect for over 10 years.
4. Keep learning and growing
“I consider myself incredibly lucky to part of team Prospect. I love seeing the team help candidates find their dream jobs and help clients find the very best talent – I’ve learned so much from them! Recruitment is full of ups and downs but there’s no other team I’d want to be on this rollercoaster with!”
– Sara Blagden, Resourcer, Prospect (UK), has been with Prospect for over 3 years.
5. Set (and achieve) goals
“The whole Prospect team is committed to consistently delivering their best while staying true to the company’s core values of honesty and transparency. Being surrounded by colleagues performing at a high level is a big motivator for me to do the same.”
– Florence Evans, Consultant, Prospect (Asia), has been with Prospect for over 6 months.
