How to crack A Creative Challenge |
Claire Bridges, Founder of Now Go Create shares her top tips on how to crack A Creative Challenge.
1. Have a creative process
Don’t reinvent the wheel every time you have a challenge. Establish a process and follow it to save time and consistently deliver.
2. Make like a magpie
Stimuli is key. Collect newspaper cuttings, keep a notebook, create a Pinterest board as inspiration for when you have a creative challenge. Hey, it worked for Da Vinci.
3. Channel your inner Paxman
Learn how to ask the right questions, be tenacious, interrogate the challenge, ask why, why, why? Also known as chunking or ladder of abstraction this technique is brilliant for developing strategy.
4. Quick & dirty fail safe creative technique
If you’re stuck, ask yourself ‘what would Ga Ga, Ghandi, Obama or Kermit do? You might just like the answer.
5. Second that emotion
Work out what emotion you’re trying to elicit from your target audience. Curiousity, excitement, fear, trust? Work out what moves people and push their buttons.
6. “Fail to prepare, prepare to fail” Benjamin Franklin
Too much information? Not enough? Plough through the brief to get to the nub of the challenge, see if you can summarise the problem in one sentence, even into one word. Certainly focuses the mind on what the problem is.
7. Get insight
There are masses of free resources out there to tap into for inspiration and insight. My favourites are PSFK.com and Trendhunter.com Techadence, Lesscapism or Unlabelling anyone? Use these as big wide world inspiration for your ideas.
These and other techniques are covered in Now Go Create’s How to Become A Creative Ninja - learn techniques, habits and attitudes to enable you to consistently think more creatively whether you have 10 minutes, an hour, day or a week course is open for booking April 20th and June 11th 2012.
