Spotlight on Firstlight

We find out more about firstlight, the independent multi-sector communications consultancy.

Who are they?

firstlight is an entrepreneurial and thriving communications agency based in Farringdon. The agency name, firstlight ‘jumped off the page’ when Paul Davies was reading Hemingway’s ‘True at First Light’ which opens with ‘In Africa, something is true at first light and a lie by noon’.  It was, he says, a reminder that instinct and conviction are two key qualities in everything the agency does.  firstlight seemed a fitting name for the company. This is an agency that means business and with its heart in the b2b / corporate space, delivers exceptional campaigns for high profile UK and global clients. Even though the team are corporate and healthcare specialists they think creatively and come at things from a consumer perspective. A feisty, exciting and creative agency that is making waves, securing top PR talent and giving the bigger guns a run for their money.

What do they do?

A lively and talented agency that counsels clients, pushes back and provokes in order to deliver corporate standout with consumer thinking to really help brands and businesses improve their engagement.  Agency services span crisis and issues management to campaign development, brand positioning, reputation management, profiling and strategic counsel, lobbying and media training – and this is just the tip of the iceberg.

Who do they do it for?

Clients include LinkedIn, City Sprint, Novartis Oncology, eBay Advertising, eBay Enterprise, DWF, Standard Life Investments, Abbvie, Napp Pharmaceuticals  and JATO

What is it like to work there?

The joint MDs – Paul Davies and Pat Pearson – place huge emphasis on flexible working and an effective life / work balance.  Put simply they reckon that if they hire great people and inspire them to deliver great work, clients tend to be happy and the agency grows as a result. The office is contemporary, has little quirks and is generally buzzing.  There’s banter and a real feeling of collaboration and camaraderie. The team are consummate professionals who are culturally curious and have a hunger and drive to deliver outstanding results. There’s an avid interest in shaping and growing the agency from everyone who works there, and whilst not completely flat in structure, it’s very meritocratic – everyone is trusted and empowered to do their job.
